Meet Marena
Many people ask how I became a formulator of plant-based skincare. The truth is, it was a journey of finding purpose after a life-changing event. At 22 I was married to a soldier who had been medically retired after serving five tours in Iraq and Afghanistan. At the time, I was pursuing a graphic design degree, but still felt uncertain about my true calling.
My husband, struggling with both physical and mental health issues after his time in service, was also searching for his way forward. He was on multiple medications, but nothing seemed to help. We spent years trying to navigate his health challenges, all while I continued searching for my own path.
In 2012, after years of struggling with pain and treatments, my husband, at the age of 26, tragically took his own life, leaving me to confront the unimaginable loss. The shock of it all brought on anxiety, PTSD, and depression, leading me on a new journey of healing. I realized that health isn’t just about what we put into our bodies, but what we apply to them as well. This sparked my passion for exploring the healing power of plants and herbs.
What began as an obsession with living a natural lifestyle grew into crafting my own hygiene and cleaning products. Slowly, I began growing my own plants and experimenting with formulas. It was the beginning of something meaningful, a way to channel my pain into purpose. After years of research, study, and even working at a dermatologist's office, I finally opened Livin Off Earth. It became my way to not only share my passion for natural skincare, but also to honor those who have lost a loved one to suicide.
This journey, with all its struggles and triumphs, has led me to understand that this is my true purpose.

Learning Never Stops
My goal is to continue learning about botanicals that can be beneficial to us and do some good for the planet. At the end of 2019 I went back to school and completed my Degree in Organic Skincare Formulation. There was something inside of me that wanted this business to showcase that clean healthy ingredients can help heal and protect the biggest organ of our bodies. That these ingredients not only help our skin, but also provide the right nutrients for a healthy body and mind. I am now on a mission to complete my Degree is Cosmetic Science along with a continuing education course so I can keep up to date with the latest ingredients on the market.
Suicide goes beyond military soldiers, so reach out to anyone who might be feeling depressed, bullied, loss of hope, or even hardships.
